WHEN THE CAT'S AWAY...

My Hat is Older Than You is building a House of Cards (namely, postcards), which brought to mind a few years ago when the boys and I had a fun time spoofing a friend of ours with postcards of his car having adventures.

Our college friend asked if we could keep his car for the summer, because it was too old to make the trip to his home in Colorado.  So we took a photo of the car, used Photoshop to “cut” it out, and then pasted it onto scenes of various exotic sites around this country and the world.

Here is the car visiting Mt. Rushmore

Every whipstitch, we would mail one out, with a little tale written on the back from the car itself.  What a blast we had!

He went to a big reunion in Sweden

He went on a hot-air balloon ride in Arizona

And he even visited Niagara Falls--getting to do something a lot of us miss out on!

  1. That is priceless. My friend and I were in Purgatory, Colorado with our Baptist church youth group one winter. We sent post cards to all of the deacons asking them to pray us home from Purgatory. Oh my. lol

  2. We did something like that with a goofy looking hat my mom took from a friend at work. The hat was in Homer Simpson's cranial x-ray, at Rennaissance Festival, we even taped it up and put it on my head backwards, so it almost looked like a hostage. She would anonymously send the photos through inter-office mail every once in a while until she decided to give the hat back. And people wonder why I'm so deranged? :D

  3. @darkerviolet - I've heard of people doing this sort of thing by taking the neighbor's flamingos out of the yard too!

  4. @TheChickadeeFeeder - That would be something I'd do, though I would probably take garden gnomes or those funny squirrels people attach to houses. It's not like we're facing any sort of squirrel shortage here, so I just don't understand those!

  5. That is hilarious!-- and well done, too. Sounds like something I might *think* about doing but not actually do. Good for you for having taken the time to do fun creative stuff with your kids. I esp like the balloon ride and the Niagara Falls!
Oh, your first comment about the youth group in Purgatory reminds me of our jokes about a little town in MI called Hell. Yes, that provides LOTS of good fodder. My husband & oldest daughter stopped there on the way back from something or other a few yrs ago, and my daughter loves to tell people that she's been to Hell & back. (She's also suggested that town as a destination for Hubz and me when we talk about going on a trip. She enjoys actually being able to get away with saying, "You guys can just go to...")

  7. @i_am_a_lone_reed - No, you know Jason--he didn't say a word about it all summer!

  8. I guess you had a lot of fun in making that.  Your friend should be amazed when he saw what his car was able to do , yet ! Love
