SAVING GASOLINE

My extended family just recently visited our house; they don’t make it here often, but when they do, they come in style.  My mother and sister-in-law drove here in a pickup truck, but Dad and brother Brent rode their bicycles—from Indiana.
We live in Pennsylvania.

My dad is 78 years old.

When they arrived in town, we drove in and met them at the local ice cream place.  My brother told me to be sure not to bring the truck, as Dad would want to throw his bike in the back!  And yes, that’s the first thing Dad said when we pulled in:  “Where’s the truck?”

Actually, they’ve both done a lot of biking.  In these later years of his life, Dad has bicycled across the US, and trekked across all four borders of the US as well.  I imagine he’s seen many many things that I can only dream about.

  1. Very impressive! How long did the trip take them? Did they tent it overnight?

  3. My brother was amused that they ended up tenting only half the time; the other times, Dad solicitously thought my brother should sleep in a motel. The photo I took, along with a very nice story, was on the front page of our newspaper yesterday!

  4. Wow, that's amazing! I'm 22 years younger and not nearly that spry. Maybe I spend too much time at the computer and not enough time exercising.
